WINTER LEAGUES 2011/2012 - MATCH REPORTS
9th February - 3rd Team won away at DL Ringwood 4 ~ 4-1
- Dan won 3-0
- Brian won 3-0
- Andy won 3-0
- Lin won 3-0
- Kev lost 0-3
Arrived nice and early for this one.
Brian went on first and had a comfortable 3~0 win.
Dan took his time to get into this match going 2~7 down before stringing together 5 points to get even, and then after another hand out took the game without losing another point. This set the pace for the next 2 games moving his opponent around the court in some very long rallies. 3~0 win.
Andy was another who gave his opponent a head start but then comfortably took all 3 games. Kev had one of the toughest games as both players are new to league squash, just losing out in the first 9~7, he lost the 2nd and not calling for lets and strokes lost him the 3rd, but a good all-round effort that could easily have had a better out come.
Lin took a 2 love lead but then let her opponent in to take a 6 point lead in the third. She then had a lucky decision (so I was told) to give her hand in, and was then able to get going again not giving up another point to take the match 3~0. Good points 17~3 which keeps us in 4th place. A good meal and company was cut short by it starting to snow, thanks to Andy who made it a safe drive home.
2nd February - 3rd Team lost at home to Two Riversmeet 5 (Lge & Cup) ~ 1-4
- Lee won 3-0
- Richard lost 0-3
- Brian lost 1-3
- Andy lost 0-3
- Tom lost 1-3
Riversmeet came over with very strong team and cemented their place at the top of the division with a convincing 4~1 win. Lee the only one to win his match.
Richard came very close in all of his games, Andy had a youngster again that was just too quick around the court, Brian and Tom got a well deserved game each, giving us a total of 5 points, 2 better than we got in the first round. Match supper was entertaining but the news that they are fighting to keep courts at their club sobered the evening.
30th January - General Team News for January
Ryan McKechnie has transferred over from Dorchester and joined the 1st Team
Excellent win for the 1st Team (Ryan, Sam, Olly, Ben, Gary) 5-0 against Purbeck 1.
3rd Team unlucky to lose 2-3 at home to Hamworthy 2. Lee had a good start winning the first 9/3, just losing the 2nd 7/9 but then went on to a comfortable 3/1 win. Richard was next on court against another one of Hamworthy’s new recruits who has not lost this season, both were hard hitting players but Dave’s speed around the court had Richard at a disadvantage and he went on to keep his 100/% record with a 0/3 win. Andy had a good start against an opponent now playing 2 places down in the order, taking the 1st 9/6 but then was unable to compete with this much stronger player. Tom took control of his match from the start and did not allow his opponent to put him off. Taking a 3/0 win.
The match tied at 2all it was down to Brian again to try and get the win. It was looking like a easy victory for the Hamworthy side but Brian had a fight back in the 3rd and had 2 game balls to take it to a 4th set but was just unable to convert them giving the victory to Hamworthy.
This was our first home defeat against a strengthened Hamworthy team who have now gone top of the 5th division.
Good food and company enjoyed by all
2nd Team have had to withdraw from the leagues due to lack of available players
13th December - 1st Team lost away at West Hants 2 ~ 0-5
- Sam lost 2-3 - Came back from 0-2 down, but ran out of legs in the fifth when 5-4 up
- Lee Lost 2-3 – Played very well and came back in the fifth from 1-8 to 7-8 then tinned an easy chance to go 8-8 and lost 7-9
- Gary lost 0-3 - Never in the match, even when 7-0 in the second game!!
- Anthony lost 0-3 - Opponent was just too good
- Walkover lost 0-3 - Another away match with only 4 players!
1st December - 1st Team won at home to Two Riversmeet 3 (Cup) ~ 3-2
- Sam won 3-0 - Could you you hit the ball harder and make the rallies last longer!
- Gary lost 2-3 - Should have won, had 2 match balls in the 4th game!!
- Mark lost 1-3 - Need to play best of 7 games to get those knees going!
- Anthony won 3-1 - Excellent win, well played
- Richard E. won 3-0 - A stroll in the park, not bad after driving all day!
Not a bad win with a several players pulled in at short notice, especially Richard at 19:00 after Ben had to pull out! Hopefully do even better in the New Year with Olly and Richard P. fit again and back in the team.
1st December - 3rd Team lost away at Bridport 2 (Cup) ~ 0-5
- Lee lost
- Dan lost
- Brian lost
- Andy lost
- Les lost
However the result was reversed as Bridport fielded an ineligible player at no. 1. :-)
1st December - 2nd Team lost away at Ferndown 3 (Cup)~ 0-5
Unfortunately the match was forfeited so that the 1st and 3rd teams had enough players to put out decent sides.
24th November - 1st Team won at home to DLR 1 ~ 5-0
Unfortunately DLR could not raised a team and we had a 5-0 walk over.
23rd November - 3rd Team won at home to DLR 3~ 4-1
- Lee won 3-0
- Richard won 3-1
- Dan won 3-0
- Tom lost 1-3
- Tighe won 3-2
Lee’s match fitness is now paying off, as he moved with ease around the court and starting to play some of his best squash in over a year. (3~0).
Tom‘s match was against a greatly improved Russell Young. Both players being tall and with long reaches evened the match and looked like going the full 5 games but after a very hard fought two games, Russell changed his game and was able to go on to win the next two games (1~3).
Richard had a hard hitting 3~1 win that had lots of drama the 9/7,10/9, 5/9, 9/7 score line speaks for its self.
Dan knowing that it could be all up to him again to win the match made certain he did not disappoint with a determined 3~0 win.
Tighe was in a marathon match on the other court that took 65 min to complete. Both players went for every ball and at times looked very dangerous, but their determination to get to the ball out weighed this. Some of the back hand rallies looked like a training session, each trying to see if they could get it to drop into the corner. It was a good game to mark as both players only asked for a decision when they knew the outcome. This 3~2 match result 9/7,7/9, 9/6, 6/9 , 9/7 to Tighe gave us a 18~5 overall score and now takes us up one place to 5th in the table. Another good meal and good company.
17th November - 3rd Team won at home to Canford 2 ~ 5-0
- Lee won 3-0
- Dan won 3-2
- Brian won 3-0
- Lewis won 3-0
- Andy won 3-0
Another great win last night.
Andy in his first match of the season had a good start winning the first to 6 then the next 10~8 and in the 3rd game his opponent called one on match ball and Andy did not give him a second chance. Brian had a good win against Ali Mackenzie not letting her get into long rallies which frustrated her into making too many errors. Lewis now playing left handed is just as quick around the court and had an entertaining game with Chas Holcomb, who tried to out manoeuvre Lewis on many occasions but the ball just kept coming back. His 3-0 win won us the match. A greatly improved Lee had a easy 3-0 win. The match of the night was the number 2’s Dan against Sharnine ( ladies number 4 county player) a match of two half’s, going 2 up through powering his shots and not allowing Sharnine to get into her touch game. Dan had a shock in the 3rd as she kept a length game going, pushing Dan around the court chasing for points. She continued this to take the 4th as well, leaving a decider that did not disappoint. Dan settled and his speed around the court got him a 3~2 well deserved win. Giving us maximum points and keeping our home record at 100%.
16th November - 2nd Team won at home to Dorchester 2 ~ 4-1
- Chris lost 2-3
- Lee won 3-1
- Anthony won 3-2
- Richard won 3-2
- Josh won 3-0
10th November - 1st Team lost away at BSC 3 ~ 0-5
- Sam lost 2-3 - 8-4 up in the fifth!
- Ben lost 0-3 - unbeaten record now gone
- Gary lost 0-3
- Mark lost 1-3
- Walkover lost 0-3
10th November - 3rd Team won at home to Dorchester 4 ~ 3-2
- Richard won 3-1
- Dan won 3-1
- Brian lost 2-3
- Tom won 3-1
- Milo lost 0-3
Milo’s debut match for the team did not go to plan; his experienced opponent got the better of him and he went down 3~0.
Tom made a good start winning the first two games then relaxed too much losing the 3 to love but came back strong in the 4th to take the win.
Dan started off badly not able to get to grips with left hander Steve Jeffery’s back hand, once he did he won the next three game quite comfortably.
Brain looked like he was going to lose in 3 games but fought back to win the next 2, leaving all to play for in the fifth, Brian took the lead, but Dorchester’s Jerry Travorah was able to fight back and take the 3~2 win.
This tied the match at 2 all leaving it all up to the number ones for the overall match win.
Richard started off losing the first against the very hard hitting and quick youngster Nick Watts. But Richard’s patience and experience was able to get him back into the hard fought match. Richard going 2~1 up, the 4th was anybody’s as both dominated at times luckily for us Richard got the winning points that gave us the well deserved win and keeps our home record at 100%. Food, Beer and Cheese board was enjoyed by all - Janet

20th October - 1st Team lost away at Hamworthy 1 ~ 1-4
- Sam lost 1-3
- Olivier lost 0-3
- Ben won 3-2 - now 4 wins out of 4!
- Anthony lost 1-3
- Richard lost 0-3 - making his debut for the club
20th October - 3rd Team lost away at West Hants 6 ~ 2-3
- Richard won 3-2
- Brian lost 0-3
- Amesha lost 0-3
- Kev lost 0-3
- Walkover lost 0-3
The pre-match preparation started badly with Lee having to pull out due to illness. As it happened the West Hants number one was also unavailable, which meant both teams moved up a place. Unfortunately the games did not go our way on some good courts. Kevin making his team debut at four, was distracted by Lorraine’s talk about spicy sausages.
Brian was outplayed by a good opponent. Amesha had a good second game, but couldn’t quite get the winning points. Richard's game was the show game of the evening, against young Sam. The two left hander's providing an excellent five setter.
Sam seemed to be able to return everything, but Richards experience came through for a 9-7 win in the fifth. We were glad to at least get one win and return with some points. An enjoyable evening, company, food and beer very good afterwards. - BS
19th October - 2nd Team lost away at Ferndown 3 ~ 0-5
- Chris lost 1-3
- Mark lost 0-3
- Anthony lost 0-3
- Dan lost 2-3
- Josh lost 0-3
13th October - 1st Team lost away at JP Blandford 2 ~ 2-3
- Sam won 3-2 - a great comeback from 0-2 down!
- Olivier lost 1-3 - still suffering with a back problem
- Ben won 3-1 - great win and still undefeated this season 3 wins out of 3
- Gary lost 0-3 - too many unforced errors (again!) against a wily JP
- Anthony lost 0-3 - played well, but opponent too good on the night
13th October - 3rd Team won at home to DLR 4 ~ 5-0
- Lee won 3-0
- Richard won 3-0
- Brian won 3-0
- Tighe won 3-0
- Amesha won 3-0
The DLR team turning up late (7:45) with only 4 players was not a good start to the evening for them. And this was to continue!
This gave Amesha her much need first win, but not liking the way she got it. Richard played a very controlled game winning with ease, even with a borrowed racket after he broke his strings in the first game. Tighe had an opponent that had not played a team match before. This was another easy game for the Weymouth side. Brian had another week were he dominated his opponent and got another 3-0 win.
Lee’s opponent was a youngster who hit the ball too hard and was very enthusiastic. Playing well within his limits Lee was able to place the ball and gave his opponent a good game. The 5-0 20-0 win was a welcome bonus and puts us 4th in the table. Good company, a win, a beer, cheese & biscuits and the early night, what else could you ask for.
12th October - 2nd Team won at home to Port Regis 1 ~ 3-2
- Chris lost 0-3
- Mark lost 0-3
- Anthony won 3-0
- Dan won 3-2
- Josh won 3-0
6th October - 1st Team won away at Purbeck 1 ~ 3-2
- Sam lost 0-3
- Olivier won 3-2
- Ben won 3-1
- Allan lost 2-3
- Gary won 3-1
A good solid result mainly due to a great double come back from Olly! With a bad back problem and at 0-2 he looked down and out, but recovered to take the next two games 9-1, 9-1. Then went 3-8 down in the fifth, but miraculously came back again to take the fifth 10-8! Gary & Ben had comfortable wins and Allan should have won, but some dodgy calls at the back end of the fifth game cost him the match. Sam's head was elsewhere (girlfriend on the balcony!!) and although he was hitting the ball very well it wasn't enough to win him points.
6th October - 3rd Team lost away at Hamworthy 2 ~ 2-3
- Lee lost 1-3
- Richard lost 2-3
- Dan won 3-0
- Brian won 3-0
- Amesha lost 0-3
Amesha again had a good match that had her opponent having to use his power to pass her. She had game ball again in the second but was unfortunately unable to convert it. 9/6, 10/8, 9/2.
Brian was on form this week putting Peter Foulger under pressure right from the beginning of the match with a comfortable 3~0 win.
Dan had a good match solid win to put us 2~1 a head.
Richard looked like he was going to seal our victory in the fourth game 7/9 but a controversial call on match ball swung the match the other way. 0/9, 10/9, 6/9, 10/8, 10/9. Lee came up against his old junior team mate James Luther, they have always had healthy rivalry with honours even. This match was no exception, manoeuvring each other around the court they had the balcony wondering how did they get that back. The 9/3, 10/9, 8/10, 9/1 (3~1) score to James line sealed the 3~2 victory for Hamworthy. Beer and a good meal as always,
looking forward to the return.
29th September - 3rd Team lost away at Two Riversmeet 5 ~ 0-5
- Lee lost 1-3
- Dan lost 1-3
- Brian lost 1-3
- Amesha lost 0-3
- Janet lost 0-3
A disappointing match with only 3 points gained.
Brian, Lee and Dan all had good games, but were unable to get the winning points on these very hot courts. Amesha came very close again in the first game losing 10/9, she was unable to get back into the match and lost the next two games. Janet had a partner who killed everything after the second shot and was not able to get into the match. We were joined by the Bridport 1st team in consolation drinks as they also lost badly. The long drive home was made even longer due to the A31 being closed or was it me driving (or so Lee said!).
22nd September - 3rd Team won at home to Springfield 1 ~ 3-2
- Lee won 3-0
- Richard won 3-1
- Brian won 3-0
- Amesha lost 0-3
- Linda lost 0-3
A good win last night against a very social Springfield side. Lin stepping in at the last minute took a couple of game to settle down to her hard hitting opponent. In the 3rd Lin got to grips with his awkward serve and ended up making him work very hard to get the 3~0 win.
Brian played a lot better this week and settled into a comfortable 3~0 win.
Amesha another last minute sub went 5 love up before her opponent got a point, he changed tactics using a high lob to stop Amesha doing her famous drop shots. Doing this he went on to win the first 2 games. In the 3rd after a fight back amesha had game ball and could have put it any were for the win but cut it too fine putting it into the tin. The scream was heard all through the club. Disappointed she then lost the next few points to give them a 3~0 win and an overall 2~1 lead. Lee in his second match played a controlled game not letting his opponent get a point until the 3rd game. He then relaxed and moved Peter around the court placing the ball. The 3~0 win was our 2nd win and the match at 2 all. Richard was 1 love up in his match when they were both told it was all on this game. The 2nd game both players were now going for everything and at 8 all ‘one’ was called and lucky Richard he came out the winner, Paul fought back in the 3rd to take it 9~2, in the 4th Richard got his game face on winning that 9~3 and the match 3~2 (14~7).
Good points for both sides.
A spicy sweet chili chicken and cheese board was enjoyed by all. Looking forward to the return as we are promised homemade Dorset apple cake.

15th September - 2nd Team won at home to JPB 3 ~ 3-2
- Allan lost 0-3
- Ross lost 0-3
- Mark won 3-0
- Anthony won 3-2
- Dan won 3-0
13th September - 3rd Team lost away to Bridport 2 ~ 1-4
- Lee lost 0-3
- Richard lost 1-3
- Dan won 3-0
- Brian lost 0-3
- Janet lost 0-3
This Weymouth team that had the summer off, showed that they were out of practice in this first match of the season. Brian and then Janet had two quick successive 0/3 games that both could not get to grips with.
Dan took an early two love lead but then had a fight in the 3rd and just piped it 10/9 for our only win, and his first time to get a victory over Steve Hodder.
Lee having his first match for 5 months found his skill was not enough to out manoeuvre a very quick Jez Brodie.
Richard took the 1st game 9/8 but match practice took its toll and went on to lose 1/3. The after match supper at the Indian restaurant made up for the disappointing start to the season. It can only get better.
